Tell me a little about yourself, what is your background?
I’m Lana, mum to Finn and Ava and have recently launched Busy and the Boy – a kids clothing website.
What gave you the idea to start Busy and the Boy?
I became a mum firstly to Finn (aka the Boy) 7 years ago and Ava (aka Busy) 2 years later. At the time I was living in Shoreditch and able to find really cool kids clothes that weren’t the typical pastels and florals that seemed to be everywhere else. A couple of years ago I moved out of London and found it really difficult to find Finn and Ava clothes that both they, and I liked. On speaking to friends and other mums, I started researching brands online and the idea of Busy and the Boy first started to take hold. Around 6 months ago I finally launched – my dream website with a curated collection of the coolest and most cutting edge kids clothes and accessories.
How do you describe the style of your shop?
Busy and the Boy has been a real labour of love. Finn and Ava have definite opinions on what they like to wear and I’m really proud of that independence – even at the ages of 7 and 4. Taking into account this independent spirit, I’ve worked to curate brands and individual pieces that reflect a certain unique style – each of them tested out for style and appeal but also for durability and quality. The website itself is clear and simple. I’m passionate that they should have every confidence in the product. This also comes with a ‘no quibbles’ returns policy as standard. Being a parent is time consuming enough so I want to make the process of clothes shopping as easy and as enjoyable as possible.
Who are your favorite kidswear designers at the moment?
Obviously all the brands on the website! I love brands who aren’t afraid to use colour and texture. My personal all time favourites are The Brand, Finger in the Nose, Boys & Girls, Molo and Mini Rodini. Wolf & Rita use beautiful prints and I especially liked their last autumn winter floral prints.
Sales have started, what are your top 3 must-have items in your shop right now?

What is your dream situation for Busy and the Boy?
At the moment I’m just enjoying its success! I’ve been amazed at the feedback and by how many mums and dads appreciate the pieces I’ve collected. I’ve been researching for next season and can’t wait to make the final edit, my problem will be narrowing it down as I’ve already seen so many great S/S pieces. There are some really fun colour-ways being introduced and some new brands I’m looking to stock. Longer term, I’m keen to start looking at designing some pieces myself – I just need to find the 25th hour in the day to do so…
